    TOUR OF LJUBLJANA

Ljubljana’s size places it among middle to big European cities, it is charming because it is small and has everything that the big capitals have. Traces from all the rich, historical periods have been preserved; remains of the Roman Emona, Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau facades, decorated portals and romantic bridges that embellish the Ljubljanica River, the small but romantic river which bisects the city. The visit to the old town centre will take us to Ljubljana’s main sights.

    10 July, 4.00–6.00 pm

    WORKSHOP: SLOVENE CARNIVAL MASKS

Are you feeling a bit mischievous and creative? Then come to the carnival mask workshop, where we will create a Kurent – an iconic figure of Slovenian carnival heritage – using woolen fabric. Participants will learn about the history and symbolism of the Kurent and will be taught how to design the mask using various textile design techniques. During the creation process, we will explore the significance of colours, textures, and accessories characteristic of the Kurent’s appearance, and immerse ourselves in the creative process.

    14 July, 5.00–6.30 pm

FILM: IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY

Every summer, four best friends spend a few days in the mountains in a remote place in Slovenia. Years ago, their friendship was tainted by an incident that alienated them from each other. This time they want to face the past and restore their ties, but they encounter an unusual family from a nearby village and a mysterious hunter. As the situation spirals out of control, they must deal with external threats, strange coincidences and their own fears. Will this fight for survival restore their friendship or destroy it for good? The film has English subtitles.

    16 July, 8.00–10.00 pm

    THEATRE PLAY: THE FLOCK

The starting point for The Flock is a story about an atypical flock of crows that settled in the Netherlands by accident, because of the climate change and the destroyed balance on the planet. The birds have adjusted their lifestyle and lived with the local crows. But because they looked different, they remained noticeable. Even though they did not breed excessively and the population remained small, the city authorities sentenced them to extermination and destroyed them completely. The project, devised by Žiga Divjak and the team, explores the coexistence of different living species on the planet and at the same time touches the question of migrations, searching for a better life and the (in)ability to integrate. The play has English subtitles.

    17 July, 8.00–11.00 pm

    KARAOKE NIGHT

To conclude the 2-week Summer School, we will gather at a café for a karaoke evening. We will sing along to Slovenian and international songs, chat, have a snack and toast the upcoming end of the Summer School.
